- problems with windows vista
- designing your dell dimension xps 410 desktop
- features such as photos and music as well as games
I just purchased my first desktop computer, the Dell dimension xps 410. The computer cost me about $2200 with some discounts and special offers. I have had some problems with it, but overall it is a great computer. This model of Dell is specifically for music and photo needs, which I purchased it for, as well as for games. In this sense, it has incredible benefits. The downsides included no parallel port for an older printer I own, and Windows vista has had some small issues. I recommend upgrading some of the items, such as the hard drive and ram capacities, and getting microsoft publisher, etc.
What I Like About XPS 410 and tips
The first thing to do is go down through all the specifications before ordering and resolve what you will need. This can make or break your satisfaction with the computer. For instance, if you have millions of photos you want to store on the hard drive, make distinct to upgrade appropriately. I chose the 500 gb hard drive memory. The highest available was a dual 500 gb- so total of 1000 gb storage. I upgraded to ensure having enough memory to store all my photos plus ones I will take once starting into the realm of professional photography. I can always find the other 500 gb installed into the computer later. I chose to pay extra for the advanced photos, music, and games package. I am eager in working with photo editing and printing, and creating music and editing music as well. I also chose Microsoft Little Business 2007, the most expensive package of microsoft. This gives me publisher, where I can make brochures and business cards, outlook for email, and the software for starting up and maintaining a exiguous business. I also have word processing. Finally, I chose to have two cd/dvd burning drives, and a 13-in-1 media card reader. So far, I have had very wonderful luck with these features. I have designed and printed my possess business cards, I have made cd’s of my movies that I recorded on my sony cybershot camera, and I have loaded and stored thousands of photos from my digital camera memory sticks.
What I Like Least About XPS 410 and tips
The major two issues I have with this computer are Windows Vista and printer issues. Windows Vista overall is great- although it takes awhile to get used to. There are many differrences in layout that will need to be learned, even down to how to shut the computer down or lock it. The desktop and control panels are also organized differently, and there is a weird flower-looking button to use when trying to get into a file or print from a file in the program you are using. With some practice, many of these differences can be learned. The problem is that Windows Vista has some unresolved issues, and some of these are ones they don’t even know about yet. For instance, once a box popped up stating that one of my programs couldn’t run due to some type of compatibility issue. I had to uninstall and reinstall this to get it to work. Many preinstalled programs on the computers are having conflicts with Vista, that need to be resolved. Dell was very helpful at resolving this issue.
There is, however, another issue that has yet to be resolved. I have an old dinosaur printer called the hp psc 500, an all in one with a parallel port connection only. When sold the computer, Dell researched and ensured that the computer and printer could work together, and found out that the printer should even work with windows vista. There is a preinstalled driver for this printer in windows vista on my system. HOwever, with weeks of phone calls, the issue has yet to be resolved, and my all-in-one is not working with the computer. I do have another photo printer, so was able to still print photos and business cards. However, this was a $300 printer, not much former before this, that met all my needs such as scanning and copying and it is very disappointing that it doesn’t work. I am still trying to gain this worked out with Dell. The moral of this story is that you will have to do really careful research to find out what issues exist with a printer that doesn’t come from Dell- whether it will work with Dell and Windows Vista. Despite all evidence everywhere to the contrary, it has yet to work. Dell even sent me a pci express card to install to have a true parallel to parallel port connection for the printer.
Conclusion
Be sure to do careful research when buying the Dell Dimension XPS 410 computer system. Know what amount of storage capacity you will need, know what software you need, and find out any issues if you will be coordinating the system with products that are not made by Dell. Find out any issues with Windows Vista as well. Purchase as many warranties and service plans as possible, so that if issues arise you will be able to get help dealing with them.
Then, have some fun! If you are keen in photography, making brochures and business cards, and creating movies and cd’s from your music, then this computer is definitely for you! I have had countless hours of fun and created high quality products I didn’t even realize I could do without an extensive computer background.

There are many types of phone services and systems to choose from these days. Phone companies and services vary in packages and service as much as insurance companies do. You can choose a pre-built package or you can custom build the package that is right for your business needs. The following are a few types of phone services you can decide from.
The Utter over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the choice of most sole proprietors and small business offices that need only a few phone lines and voice mailboxes. This is an Internet-based phone service and requires that a business have a computer network with enough bandwidth to carry the system. This system type requires that a company retract more than just phones. Once a business owner determines how many calls will be coming in they need to purchase the just equipment in order to win the highest-quality. VoIP system providers each have specific recommendations for equipment. Dedicated routers are proprietary with each carrier. There are some that allow for the use of regular phone equipment that are adapted to their system but more often than not, VoIP providers will require that a company purchases and installs their equipment in order to ensure that the system works properly.
Another common phone system is a Private Branch Exchange or PBX. This system consists of onsite switching equipment in order to route calls between employees as well as outside lines. Most people are familiar with the standard PBX because when main switchboards were introduced, PBX systems became very popular. Many hospitals still exercise these because of their reliability. These types of systems often work best for medium and large businesses. If you are a business that isn’t all that comfortable with immerging VoIP technology this may well be your answer. These systems also sport more sophisticated auto-attendant features such as specific call forwarding as well as being able to program different messages for different lines.
PBX systems are more expensive than the VoIP system. Initiate up costs for a PBX system will run into some money because you will have to purchase switching equipment as well as new phones. The PBX system is the most used business phone system to date however more and more companies are changing to VoIP systems as the technology grows.
Finally, there is the Virtual PBX which is sort of a hybrid of the two systems together. The Virtual PBX layers an auto-attendant PBX system within the phone lines, it sort of doubles up on PBX and VoIP. Using this type of system will allow your business to use all of the lines you have. These systems will run you about $45 per month. The cost will be more or less when taking into consideration the features and the number of lines that your business requires.
Choosing the right business phone system will grasp some time and research if you are to do it correctly. It is best to consider all of the possibilities in the beginning so that you don’t find yourself changing mere months or even a year later. Take into consideration what your current needs are and also what your future needs may be. Remember that for some of your customers your phone system is the first “face” they see, make sure your first impression is a good one.
