Quiet Background
Limiting background noise is the most challenging issue for parents who want a work from home job telecommuting. Everyone’s home life has different challenges and responsibilities. If you have small children or elderly adults that you care for, there are several options for you. Part time or full time childcare for younger children will give you the focus you will need to assist your clients. Elderly members of the family that need constant attention may do well in a stimulating adult day program. Consider agencies that can help you find a qualified personal care assistant to keep them busy during your work hours. Some companies will ask you if there are any children or teenagers in your residence during your working hours. Consider the unavoidable situations that may demand your periodic attention through the day when creating your work hours. Some employers are flexible and you may be able to form a schedule around prior commitments.
If you live near an airport, busy highway, deliver track, bus location, night club, or any other establishment that is very noisy you may want to set your work hours around this distraction. If you are building a home consider upgrading the home office by soundproofing the walls during construction. In your current home you can upgrade the windows to filter out the outside distractions. If you have a responsible adult watching your children in another part of the home, be sure to have your office in a room that has a working door lock. Keyhole door locks are not a grand option. This type of door lock can easily be picked and opened by small children. An inexpensive sliding, or hook lock that closes on the top corner of the inside of door may be a great alternative to installing a fresh door. Another option to keep outside noise down is to install a sliding track with hooks from the ceiling that are the width of the door. Use the hooks to hang a thick blanket or decorative quilt, to muffle the noise of a young child that may have broken free from the supervision of the caregiver in the home.
Pets
Station your pets where they cannot be heard, if you can hear them, so can your customer on the other end of the line. Consider investing in professional dog training. Experienced guidance from a professional can help you find ways to calm your pet, and give you an already tested plan on how to introduce your new work schedule to the dog. Be distinct to post your dogs feeding and outdoor schedule, so that you do not forget, which may result in a loud howling pet. In vulgar cases where the dogs cannot go outside, and you have to make a few hasty phone calls. Humane dog muzzles may be an option, but should only be weak for extremely brief periods of time, and not a long term solution while you are working.
There are headsets that help filter out some of the back ground noise, but do not count on that to maintain your unexcited background. Random recorded quality control calls are done routinely by many employers. Phone calls brought to their attention with excessive background noise could be grounds for suspension, termination of your employment, or destroy your services contract.
Phone service requirements
Land-line phone – many employers require that you have a hard phone line installed in your home office. Your telephone service many need to have unlimited long distance. Call waiting and assure mail may need to be disabled while you are working. Companies that do outbound calls may have you disable your caller id, to block your phone number from appearing, before you start making calls. Be obvious to call around and surf the Internet to find the best unlimited long distance calling package for your residence.
VoIP
Voice over Internet protocol, which is Internet based phone service, may not be accepted by your prospective employer. Favorite VoIP companies as Vonage, Sun rocket, are not always options, for your business phone line. Be sure to read the requirements before applying for each residence.
Equipment
Do not retract the headset until you gain employment, because each company’s requirements are different. And may be dependent upon which operating system they are using, and how the calls you receive are routed to you. Some companies do not require a headset, but do allow you to utilize a land-line corded telephone. Many companies clearly state that cordless telephones are not allowed.
Each employer has different computer, software, and media requirements. Several employers buy you to have a computer less than 4 years old, and Windows based operating system. Each employer has a list of their specifications of the computer systems they are requiring, stated with the application. Some companies may hasten off Windows XP, or Microsoft Word. For example if you have a Macintosh computer but the employer’s software requirements are not compatible with your computer, then you may have to explore another opportunity. Or capture the required equipment or software upon hire.
Resume
If you have your basic resume already written up, prefer a pen out and write out each year and season. Try to brainstorm to remember any activities you participated in outside of your home. Jot down your experiences. Highlight if you volunteered for the PTA fund-raiser, worked at the homeless shelter, or volunteered your professional services. For example if you completed tax returns for others at your church, completed yard work or building maintenance, for the nursing home. List any groups or clubs that you have worked with in any capacity on your resume. Include the name and contact information of any professionals that you may have worked with on short projects, who are familiar with your work ethic, and skills.
Do not give up your search to find a work at home job that allows telecommuting. There are legitimate work at home jobs, where you do not have to pay a fee to apply. By having a plan in place that assures a quiet work environment, and the proper home office equipment, you can dedicate your time to getting your resume out there to prospective employers.

From Prehistory to Postmodernity, architectural styles have always provided a compelling window into the past for anyone interested in the origins and nature of human cultures. Buildings reflect the essence of a time and place, preserved in stone or etched in marble, like no other kind of artifact. Of course, most people are familiar with greatest works of ancient, medieval and renaissance architecture, though few are aware of critical works from the past century that have shaped the way architects execute today.
It speaks volumes about humanity’s age-old fascination with the built environment that 5 of the 7 unusual “Wonders of the World” were architectural. There are many now-famous works of architectural genius from pre-historic times, from Egyptian pyramids to Mayan temples. There are also famous structures from Greek and Roman times, including the Parthenon, Pantheon and great Coliseum of Rome. However, these are far less influential on the way buildings are designed today than certain key architectural works of Original, Post-Modernism and contemporary Deconstructivist movements. The following 10 buildings picture critical works from each of these movements. As each, each of these structures is frequently cited in the field of architecture and beyond. By examining these buildings briefly, one can understand the origins of contemporary approaches to building create.
1) Villa Savoye (by Le Corbusier). This is perhaps the most famous work of the most famous modern architect. This house represents all of what Le Corbusier believed to be modern ideals: it was raised up on columns, had an ‘open plan’ (free of load-bearing walls and able to be rearranged), and it had expansive windows opening out to views of the landscape. As a counterpoint to this highly Modern house, however, it is worth looking at his also-notable Notre Dam du Haut – a church that demonstrated Le Corbusier’s believe that religious architecture was uniquely suited to being abstract, expressive and sublime.
2) Barcelona Pavilion (by Mies van der Rohe). Similar to the Villa Savoye, this structure used columns for its succor which allowed rooms and walls to be openly configured in any way imaginable. It was a ‘complete design,’ including furniture designed by the architect. Though the building was made for a temporary exhibition and its original parts were lost after it was deconstructed, the entire structure was rebuilt from plans and pictures in the 1970′s because of its significance to the history of Fresh architecture.
3) Glass House (by Glass). This is perhaps the height of Unique theories put into practice: an incredibly simple steel-and-glass house which, though it was effectively useless to live in due to the Greenhouse Effect, epitomized the simplicity that Modernism aspired to at its utmost.
4) Bauhaus School (by Gropius). This structure is a pure expression of determined Modernist ideals, including abstract composition and the use of industrial materials, this was not only one of the most famous schools for teaching Modern architecture: the building itself was an excellent example of the movement.
5) Fallingwater (by Wright). The most published piece of American Modernism, this building in fact showed Wright’s amazing abilities to synthesize aspects of different styles, blending materials and modes of expression from the Arts and Crafts movement with the abstraction and aesthetics of movement associated with Modernism. This contrast is highlighted by his use of stone for vertical elements and use of concrete for horizontal ones.
6) Vanna Venturi House (by Venturi). This may be the most commonly referenced example of the origins of Postmodernism. It shows how the normal symbolism of a home can be enhanced and distorted through sportive effects – a stark contrast to the simplicity and elegance associated with Modernism. The famous front-view photograph makes it look almost looks like an child’s abstract drawing of a house.
7) Parc de la Villette (by Tschumi). This park is widely considered to be the first precise fraction of Deconstructivist architecture. The architect randomly arranged and intersected series of abstract elements, explaining that his goal was to strip architecture of all meaning and allow its users to give it meanings of their own. This was contrary to the Modernist dictum that “form follows function” as well as the Postmodern preoccupation with recognizable symbols and ornament.
Frank Gehry House (by Gehry). This was an early work of Deconstructivism in which the architect and owner of the house began to experiment with different forms and materials, from adding chain-link fence and unpainted ply-wood to his yard to ripping the plaster off of walls and leaving the studs bare for all to see. It predates Gehry’s more renowned works, but also portends them.
9) Columbus Convention Center (by Eisenmann). This building pushes the strangeness of Deconstruction in architecture to its limits, using as inspiration the abstract trajectories of planes flying over the building’s place. It has been critiqued for its confusing lack of usability.
10) Seattle Public Library (by Rem Koolhaas). In this structure, Koolhaas radically rethought the nature of a library, considering what was appropriate to our contemporary information technologies. Using a complex process of radiant and computer analysis, as well as the latest in structural engineering technologies and mapping, the architect generated what looks like a strangely deformed skyscraper.
Each of these works is, of course, merely a starting place for further investigation. However, with this basic knowledge in hand, it is possible to search by architect, building or movement to learn more about particularly interesting people, places and times relevant to the history of architecture. This article is but a witness, a small taste of that vast history of architectural styles. Consider it a beginner’s guide, an overview, something to pique interest and arouse curiosity by chronologically tracing human progress as evidenced in works of architecture.

In the last twenty years the amount of technology we have had available to us has grown exponentially. Then we may have had an Atari to player Asteroid and if we were lucky one of those current fangled VHS players. Now we have personal computers, laptops, mp3 players, personal digital assistants, cell phones, home theater systems, web appliances, tablet computers, flat screen televisions, all sorts of video game consoles, if someone has thought of it, we probably have it. All of these great epitomes of modern technologies don’t come for free though, they cost money. By following these tips, you can probably save over $1,000 annually.
The first thing you will probably want to look at is your telephone services. If you still have a landline, you are probably better served by just dropping it all together. Often times people pay around $40 per month for these services. We now all have cell phones and can make use of VOIP phone calls which sound better and better each month for just pennies a day. You should also reevaluate your cell phone plan. Often times people pay for features and minutes they never use. If you are not coming close to your limit, drop your plan down to something great less expensive. Doing these things alone could probably save you over $500 a year!
Quit paying the post office to send your bills off. Use an electronic bill paying service to take care of them. Most of the time your bank will offer them for free, and now you don’t have to worry about forgetting one of your bills. If you write out 6 bills a month, that’s almost $40 in stamps, envelopes and checks you’ll save each year!

It may be tempting to go out and buy Apple’s new iPhone, or whatever the latest and greatest gadget is, but you will always pay a huge premium for the latest and greatest. Your current technology probably serves you just fine. Wait a year or so after a product comes out and you’ll easily be able to save about 30% on the note you’ll pay for a gadget.
When buying digital music, don’t regain suckered in to the 99 cents a song pricing scheme. You can now listen to all of the music to your hearts desire for just about ten bucks a month through many of the subscription based music services such as Napster.
Hopefully you will be able to save a lot of money on the technology we all know and love. I know it may be the easy thing to do to go out and capture that iPod, leave your computer on, and leave your phone lines alone, but you could potentially save quite a bit of money!
